My Journey with upGrad: From Creativity to Digital Mastery

Why I chose digital marketing: It’s Backstory I lead off with a surprise. I was thinking about services like ‘search engine optimisation’ one day and started to wonder about my goals and aspirations. If having dreams is not good, then what is the ultimate demise to come to the digital world with obstinate mood and endless frustration? That was just a single occasion 2 years ago The ad has not exactly been inviting. It was something about a product that I found quite not my type of thing. I might have just swiped past it but my thumbs were too heavy to do so after the ‘enough is enough’ moment. The advertisement contained things that were absolutely irrelevant to my world at that moment. The One Ad That Changed Everything: My Indian Digital Marketing Journey A 2 a.m. Phone Glow and a Transcendental Moment Imagine 2am in Mumbai. I had to survive the harsh summer with my AC turning on, my mother saying “beta, so ja!” three times already, and my phone screen turns on with a dim light because I was scrolling on Instagram in the dead of the night. And suddenly, a pop-up ad for a “Biryani Home Chef Kit” popped up. It wasn’t just a simple ad. Of the contents, it was written: “Tired of Swiggy? Make your Dadi’s biryani under 30 minutes (without getting scolded by her on wastage of saffron.) I had questions in my mind. How did they know? 1) I had ordered biryani 4 times that week. 2) My grandmother constantly criticizes me for the decisions I make. 3) I feel guilty for lacking the capability of cooking. One click to be the first person to buy by the time I realize, I clicked on “Order Now” faster than any aunt at a wedding would rush for the last gulab jamun. The Advantage Shift The Wake-Up Call From the firm’s value enhancers to the modern-day battlefield. Just like most students, the fact that digital marketers are the people who sell products day in and day out resonated with me the most. Consequently, I somehow convinced myself that getting an MBA in an every other marketing field was the only skill’s set I need within the flashier world of actually selling something. My experience with UpGrad: The Unexpected Sparks The Point of Fulfillment Discovering that blog writing styles were as changeable as a Mumbai weather statement was shocking to me. My first attempt? Absolutely. But the joy of the moment when I finally wrapped the page was matchless. Plugin-shaped Superpowers Seeing chaos turned into clarity by Yoast SEO and Monster Insights and a kind of psychological behavior of your audience almost like you can see through people while they are on the web. Strategic Happiness That Arrives Surprisingly There is a certain satisfaction that comes with weaving entire campaigns; it feels like a game of chess, where each content and timing are factors that can change a mind. Why this Polished Field Matters Now More Than Ever One smart move plays a much bigger role in determining a person’s future than his or her educational background. Small enterprises could simply thrive or fail solely on their choice of strategies for Instagram. Professionals like teachers and doctors are also compelled to market themselves. In contrast to traditional professions that suppress individual creativity, digital marketing is an area that is alive. This sector is like the new day’s alphabet for entrepreneurs, creatives, and entrepreneurs alike who now have unmatched access within this constantly transforming digital world. For Those Who Are Still Thinking About This Venture In case you receive an inspiration from both of your imaginative and logical skills Like to unearth the unsolvable task of the ignition of the campaign: Have the aim to get a success to your career  This might be a situation turning out best for you. However, you’re not lucky yet, at least in case you don’t feel uncomfortable with looking at spreadsheets for what it seems forever. Besides the businesses benefit real quick with you as a fairly reasonable investment, a rather personal impact they have on you is also extraordinary. Is it me? I keep learning and getting things wrong, for example, our professor has pointed out the errors in the worst imaginable way, but now I’m more than ever certain that the word marketing doesn’t mean selling a product, the word marketing stands for the stories you create. Just let me revise the landing page one more time please, as the 10th attempt is the lucky one. P.S. fellow learners of upGrad, feel free to share with us your funniest cringy learning moments in the comment section.

Chasing Fame

From Passion to Pixels: The Cost of Chasing Social Media Validation

Look, we all know that social media is, like, everyone’s second home by now. Whether it’s Instagram, TikTok or Facebook, these sites allow us to express our passions, celebrate our quirks and form ties with people around the world. It’s a thrill to put up a photo or video and receive likes and comments. But while it’s fun, taking the pursuit of that online applause too seriously can to smack us down — in our hearts, in our relationships and even in our bank accounts. Why It Is Difficult to Escape   No one informs you that little hearts are meant to be tapped into. Every notification provides a micro dose of dopamine; the same reason why machines are near impossible to walk away from. Before you know it, you’re:   – Editing a single photo for almost a whole hour   – Deleting posts because they do not meet your social standards – Spending countless hours worrying about captions as if they are a college application essay  As an added extracurricular, you begin viewing your existence through the lens of Instagram. That pretty sunset? “Wish I could show the world how much ‘engagement’ I’ll get. A bad day? “This is not an Instagram story.”  The Ugly Truth When Going Down the ‘Reality’ Rabbit Hole   This fascination costs way more than your time: Health and Wellness • Relentlessly put under surveillance watching your imperfect self against a curated ‘highlight’ reel • The defeated emotion when an ex’s distant relative is tagged in the same meme and receives more likes • Being concerned for the social media star that is not as ideal as your pos  A fictional Instagram post Your Real Relationships Friends are waiting to eat the meal as you’re not getting a perfect picture for your snap Missing actual conversations because you’re posting your fancy cafe meal story Feeling lonely even with 10000+ Followers. The pressure to keep up with social media can leave us tired, focusing on getting likes and comments instead of enjoying our real lives. Relationships suffer when we prioritize perfecting our online posts over real-life moments. We miss out on genuine experiences: laughing at jokes, having a one to one conversation, and being fully present with the people who care about us. The Price You Pay.   • That 2000 Rs bowl you only bought for the Ig Story/Post  • The outfits worn once for photos then stuffed in your closet   • The vacations where you spent more time filming than experiencing   Breaking Free I’m not saying you need to quit (trust me, I still post my dog pictures). But try this:   1. The 24-Hour Rule – Post something, then don’t check stats for a full day   2. Be the Worst Photo – Share an unfilterred, real moment occasionally   3. Analog happiness – Rediscover hobbies that don’t need documentation   Remember: The most interesting people I know? They’re terrible at Instagram. The most memorable moments? Usually happen when our phones are in our pockets.   So next time if you feel that craving to check your likes, ask yourself: “Is this serving me, or am I serving it?” Your answer might surprise you.   Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go enjoy my lunch without turning it into a photoshoot for Instagram Story.

Behind the Fame

Beyond Viral : The Untold Story

Each reel and every hashtag comes with a price that not a single human being equips themselves with seeing. When I first started, as an influencer, I obsessed over acquiring views, over the rate of engagement and over the “talent” I possessed and my value within the social media ecosystem – unfortunately as likes, comments, and shares. Furthermore, somehow the line dividing passion and performance became one. Now, a chase for overtly excessive and unsustainable popularity is incredibly damaging, diverse focus. Now, crafting content is unfortunately no longer about showcasing talent. The only thing that matters now is claiming this talent and preferring to pretend to authenticity while faking it, winning the Engagement Game, disguised as creative content. Social media has made relevant and visibility competition incorporating pressure, devoid of anything special, consuming everything authentic and genuine.  Content depression can and will have it’s real side, which I aim to showcase through this blog. Beyond the compromise, utter desperation and perpetual struggle goes the social sacrifice we are willing to call a cost. There’s many of us masquerading behind trends waiting to shout about needing respite of the truth offered in this unfakeable post. The Rise and Fall of an Influencer Honestly, I yearned for setting myself against freedom and daming every pure burst of creativity the world has to offer me, as art. I finally felt what it is to be happy, as I shared feel my inner thoughts and emotions with the outer world. Everything seemed personal, meaningful and every post felt close to my heart. I was not chasing followers; rather, I was in pursuit of fulfillment. Somewhere along the lines however, everything changed. What used to serve as leisure morphed into an entertainment rat race.   Viral challenges mounted pressure on creators to outdo one another, while brand deals supplanted promises of fame. And the need for popularity becomes incessant at all costs, and the need for it never ends. I succumbed to it. Due to that, I stopped creating for myself. I began creating for the algorithms and the brands. Every single piece of content catered to showcasing mastery rather than self expression. The love that I had for my work was replaced by “measured results.” The moment that happened, I was no longer a creator. Instead, I morphed into another face in an unending fight for fleeting attention. The Hidden Cost of Going Viral That unexplainable rush became my birthright, where i experienced calls, notifications as validations. But that never sticks around. Every viral tweet brings a new sense of panic:  What if the next one doesn’t go viral? What if it flops? With all that and endless sleepless nights thanks to brainstorming, shooting and editing. Additionally, the concessions expanded to include larger deals that went against my principles and ethics, material that did not represent my reality.   This was all done for the sake of remaining relevant. Every seemingly perfect post came with its own set of bad bargains, broken promises and exploitation. Brands often got everything while paying in exposure. Do you know what glamour you see online? It’s just an illusion, a well edited one at that. Losing myself to stay relevant. I lost my creativity somewhere in between the noise. My authentic voice was replaced by algorithms and expectation, by the very thing that guided me. Now, I don’t even recognized myself. A manufactured person built for revenue, not expression. Worse still, everything and anything creative I had almost lost. Staying important meant having no peace. Living in constant fear of slipping into irrelevance, of no longer being enough. Every ounce of fame shifted everything chase turned out to be a mirage. Finding my way back becomes the most difficult thing. Finally succumbing to all of the chaos gave me a much needed wake up call. As it turns out, success isn’t followers, brand deals or api likes. The real success is the raw content you create, the connections you build and the passion you enforce your will not surrender. So I decided to step back and reclaim my creativity. I did everything not for an algorithm, but for myself. The Price of Going Viral has prompted me to share the things that are usually left out;   The long, sleepless nights   The silent sobbing sessions   The sacrifices made to keep up appearances   The obstacles no one writes about when claiming to share ‘success stories’ If you’re a creator, an aspiring one, or just someone trying to survive the online world, then you’re welcome. This blog is my story, my pain, and maybe, your survival guide. A Reminder for Every Influencer Creating content should be about connection, not competition. It should be about expression, not exploitation. It should be about truth, not trends. If you’re chasing fame, pause and ask yourself: “Am I still creating for the love of it?” Stay true. Stay Connected Because fame isn’t free. It’s just not paid in money.
